Web sites main functions for business are to:
- Broadcast information to existing customers, suppliers, an associates of the business

- Use the leverage of the internet to market to new customers within existing markets
- Use the leverage of the Internet to boost profits and reduce overheads by automating the marketing and sales process
What our research found was that a lot of web sites easily passed the first two criteria to disseminate information, 98% of web sites failed to use the Internets leverage to penetrate markets, boost sales or reduce overheads.
So why did so many fail? After looking through so many web sites we where astounded that such big web design companies where regularly and repeatedly producing web sites that fail to fulfill their fndamental and core purpose. We went back and re annalysed 100 of the sites to try and get an even clearer picture on exactly wht the failing web sites have most in common.
Undoubtedly the majority of failures where designed in Flash and had heavy use of images and graphics. In fact we can clearly say that there was a direct correllation between how pretty and technologically advanced a site looked and its failure rate. Without a doubt the plainer looking sites, while still failing where signiificantly stronger in fullfilling thier primary purposes…..
We concluded that there are a lot of web desing companies selling web sites to a lot of businesses based solely on the look of the site, with nothing else other then some basic functionality taken into consideration. Put yourself in the customers shoes for 30 seconds and ask your self these questions. If I was the average customer wanting to buy my products or services:
- Would I know my company even existed?
- What would I type into the Google search box to find each of my products?
If you now go and type in that product or service into a Google search box, does your business appear in the search results on page 1 of Google…. Chances are it doesn’t. Now thats the primary reason 98% of web sites fail to boost business profits…..
